Chapter iii

Reading a chart

Each chart shows how the solve plays every possible holding at one decision. With all three cards unknown the lab never squeezes them into one flat grid: it draws exact blocks — one card pinned per block, the other two on the axes — so every cell is exactly one holding, never a family.

The reader below turns up a 5 (v5), so the 6s are the manilhas: they beat everything, they carry their suit — 6♣ > 6♥ > 6♠ > 6♦ — and each is a single card, so a manilha row or column holds exactly one copy and appears alone. Plain ranks ignore suit entirely: a 3 is any 3.

§ 1

Finding a hand

Pin your weakest card to pick the block (this reader begins at L = 7), then run your highest card down the rows and your middle card across the columns. The brass label is itself the control — click it to change both the pinned slot and the one card this chart holds fixed. Hover or tap any cell —

The number, the bands, and ≈

Only one number fits in a cell, so a mixed cell prints its biggest slice — the most-played action's percentage. The color bands carry the whole mix, each sized by its probability; the readout here (in the lab: the tooltip) spells out every action with its exact share.

A cell wearing instead of a number is weak: where a per-node BR measurement ships, an adversarial best response gains more than 5 match-win points. Older exports use the legacy self-loss/reach alarm. Either way, read ≈ as a warning, not a tactic — the trust chapter shows the machinery.

§ 3

The list — same data, sorted

LIST lays the very same holdings out as rows, strongest first: the cards up front, the mix as a labeled bar. Nothing changes but the shape — the grid is for seeing regions at a glance, the list is for reading one hand at a time.

§ 4

Walking one hand through the decisions

Pin the hand as it was actually played in the left rail, then walk the decisions with ← →. A chart cell fills two of your three cards; the panel’s card list or a card’s own menu fills the rest, and cells that are impossible with your picks grey out.

Pinning the hand (⚑) fixes it for the whole hand: that player’s rail decisions then show the pinned cards’ own mix, and only those cards stay playable. Click a card to clear it, double-click for its menu.

Before a play, every hand is still possible. The chart describes that full starting distribution.
